“Fun design demanding precise shots with severe penalties lurking not too far off the fw. The course does a great job of offering safe plays and tempting golfers to try risky shots with the chance for big reward. Many of the greens are fairly basic and don't live up to the excitement of the rest of the course. The closing 4 hole stretch is an apt exclaimation point on the round with water coming into play on the last 3. A very fun/ interesting design makes for a solid public offering near Chicago."

“The Port Course is a fun links-style course not too far from downtown Chicago. The layout is part links, part resort course with dunes, open lines of sight, but also more than a few water hazards. If you get set up at the correct tees for your game, you'll enjoy some risk/reward propositions off of certain tee boxes and be able to score well. The facilities are also excellent, with good putting green, range, and a clubhouse for food. We grabbed brats at the turn -- always a treat for someone from out of town!"

“Fun course with Chicago skyline views. A fair and challenging test, particularly in windy conditions, that provides several "risk-reward" decisions off the tee. Relatively soft turf which detracts from the "links style" layout with limited fairway bounce and roll, and approaches to mostly receptive greens."

“Dick Nugent public design in the Chicagoland area. Course was built on top of an old landfill and resembles a links-style course. Mounding makes course that hosts many rounds seem secluded. High spots on the course provide beautiful views of the Chicago skyline."

“Nice artificial contours to this new-ish course on a former landfill. Highly accessible from downtown Chicago, but you'll pay a premium to play here--the course is definitely good, but not sure if it's a great value."

“Best public courses within 30 minute drive of downtown. Really challenging layout with deep rough and howling wind fairly regularly. Unique elevation changes for Chicago course. Rounds will run you near $100 for weekend tee times but you can get reasonable twilight rates. The two courses are pretty similar, the Port course is probably a bit more unique, especially the closing 5 holes."
