TPC Sugarloaf: Stables/Meadows
TPC Sugarloaf: Stables/Meadows
2595 Sugarloaf Club Dr.
Duluth, GA 30097
United States
Overview
TPC Sugarloaf was the host of the Bell South Classic from 1997 through 2008, held on the Stables and nines of this 27-hole club. The Greg Norman design was impressive for the champions it produced, including Tiger Woods, David Duval, Retief Goosen, Zach Johnson (twice) and Phil Mickelson (three times). The course is notable for its slick-shouldered greens and stacked sod-wall bunkers, a feature not often seen in U.S. golf in the 90s. The club recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation that has brought the infrastructure up to 21st-century standards.

“The greens are the star: firm, quick, and full of subtle breaks. Downhill and down-grain putts demand respect, often racing past the hole if you're too aggressive. The variety shines through in the par 3s, with a good mix of short holes but a beast in the 8th hole on the stable 9.. A standout feature is the drivable par 4, # on Meadows that tempts big hitters with risk-reward decisions."

“I played all 27 holes at this complex, including the two that comprise the ranking. A very hilly course with firm greens. Well maintained and a few fun holes where slopes can be used to run tee shots or second shots on par fives up to the greens. A few holes have trees that impact the line that you take directly off the tee. A skilled player would curve around those trees, but the average player may not haven a shot to the fairway if they can only curve their shots in one direction."
