Overview
There is some uncertainty whether this course was designed by Donald Ross as for years it was believed to be. At some point, however, accurate attribution takes a back seat to whether or not the design is of the first rank. In this case it is. The Country Club of Orlando's routing maximizes every available inch and manages to create distinctive looks and strategies despite a number of holes moving back and forth in the same direction. No matter who first designed it, credit for elevating it into the top percentile of a state with over 2,000 courses belongs to architect Ron Forse who reworked the holes in 2017.

“Very interesting greens - they are both wild and fun and very much stand out in comparison to the dull, flat greens of most other Florida courses. Ron Forse took a "what would Donald do" approach to this restoration and did an excellent job creating an exciting course on what would otherwise be a flat, small piece of property close to downtown Orlando."

“Old Donald Ross course, so the greens are awesome as long as you keep it below the hole. Nice variety of hole layout and well bunkered. Not real difficult to navigate, so any level of golfer can have fun playing here and the back tees offer a good challenge for lower handicap players. Course was in fantastic condition, and this was a couple days after a very heavy rain event in the area. Very firm, fast fairways and lightning greens that held shots very well."

“The Country Club of Orlando is set on a fairly flat site near downtown Orlando. What sets this club apart from other elite classic-age country clubs are its dramatic, unique, inventive, and fun green complexes. The multi-level green on the short par-5 5th, the redan-like par-3 6th calling for a swooping right to left tee ball, and the double punchbowl, front right to back-left set 9th green complex with its sole bunker guarding the middle left portion were loads of fun to experience."

“Country Club of Orlando has a special stretch of holes (11-15) that are both interesting in design and challenging for most golfers. The conditions are reasonably firm and fast across the entire property and the green complexes have some level of challenge via bunkers and contour. Length of the course is geared to medium to shorter hitters, so scratch golfers can challenge the course more easily."

“Step back in time during the golden age of golf architecture when courses weren’t 7000+ yards. This recently updated Donald Ross design (6600 yards tipped) features some wonderful par 4’s and terrific variety of lengths on par 3’s."

“Enough challenge and variety to keep the interest of better players while playable by all levels. Excellent service and nice warmup area add to the appeal. Well worth a visit unless one is looking for an extreme test."

“Since the re-do, a really good course. Fabulous conditions, with fast, interesting greens and solid bunkering. It won't challenge the long hitters, but a good touch is required around the greens. You'll need the bump-and-run in several areas. Overall, a very sold contender."

“Really nice club, with your typical Florida course. The Donald Ross greens are very good!"
