Overview
The Ocean Course might have a much different reputation in the world of golf had it hosted the Ryder Cup, which it was scheduled to do in 1939 before it was cancelled due to World War II. Ponte Vedra Inn & Club’s Ocean course—though a bit of a misnomer since there are no ocean views—is a unique and creative routing with high shot options and impeccable conditioning. This is a very demanding test with the wind being very prevalent. The greens are somewhat forgiving, as if they were too demanding with the potential weather conditions, this would be nearly impossible to score. An absolute gem and must play.

“The Ocean Course at the semi-private Ponte Vedra Inn & Club is one of the most underrated courses I've played in a while. A rare classic course in Florida that offers plenty of width, this is a refreshing and unique design where the challenge is mostly found on these slick and subtle greens that yield few straight putts. The mounding surrounding these greens has a real linksy feel and the conditioning here is truly phenomenal and as good as firm, fast Bermuda can play. This is a wonderfully fun course that golfers of all abilities can play and enjoy and somewhat reminds me of an easier version of another Ocean Course, - the one in Kiawah Island."

“Despite the name, none of the holes on the Ocean course are ocean-side, nor can the player catch a glimpse of the ocean while playing. The course is routed inland with views blocked by housing development. It is a a beautiful environment to be sure, and despite not being on the ocean per se, it has a linksy feel attributed to the firm and fast conditions and abundant wind that seems to be the norm. It is a very difficult golf course where hitting the ball high and soft is essentially a requirement due to the often elevated, highly contoured and extraordinarily firm and fast putting surfaces. The greens seem to be new and were so overwhelmingly fast (stimp 14+?) that surviving the experience on the greens pervaded the experience. For this golfer who has been playing (competitive) golf for over 40 years, the greens were unlike anything I've ever seen before. There are dramatic holes with plenty of hero shot opportunities, plenty of variety in hold direction, distances and style which accrues as a benefit. Perhaps with time and maturity the greens will develop into something more playable. As it is, it's hard to imagine playing this golf course on a regular basis or how anyone with higher than a single digit handicap could get around."

“Enjoyable resort course although the greens were not resort speed or resort receptive. Played with all single digit handicap players and the greens were giving us all fits but made it a great challenge. Lots of room off the tee, when the wind blows the difficulty of the course comes out. Lay out is very good, no two holes are really the same."

“This course is fun while still challenging. The course is not overly demanding on the tee shots, but some elevated greens play tricky. Bobby Weed removed the 10th hole and added a par 3, 13th par with a semi-blind shot. The course's conditions are excellent playing hard, fast, and true."
