Overview
Set within vast salt marsh creeks and lined with moss-draped heritage oak trees, the Oak Marsh Golf Course is a classic Pete Dye design. Built around the same time as Dye’s renowned Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head, Oak Marsh is a challenging but enjoyable wetland course. Beau Welling's design team completed a renovation of the course in 2025. The layout hosted the 1988 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.

“Recently renovated by Beau Welling, this Pete Dye-designed course evokes the style of Harbour Town on Hilton Head. The rough has been eliminated, with fairways and green surrounds maintained at the same grass height. The course was in excellent condition, featuring enlarged greens with well-designed runoffs that offer players creative options around the greens. It was a highly enjoyable and fun round to play."

“The layout features scenic views of the surrounding lowcountry, with holes that wind naturally through the property and provide a mix of strategic options from the tee. Green complexes are particularly fun and varied, encouraging creativity on approach shots and around the putting surfaces. There are extremely few bunkers and no rough on the course. The limited bunkering is positioned primarily near greens to influence approach angles, while fairways remain wide and generally forgiving. Together, these elements create a layout that offers both width and playability off the tee, while still demanding precision and decision-making into the greens."

“This was a fantastic renovation. Once of best renovations I have covered and I rated Ocean Forest on ST. Simon's Island last year that was ranked #2 best reno. They did an excellent job keeping Dye's vision in tact. The course was in top condition. Greens and fairways couldn't have been better and the Greens were not rolling at resort speed but extremely true. Bunkering and tight driving holes made it challenging from the tips. The aesthetics and marsh views around the course added great value to the experience. new teeing areas, removed trees, new greens and fairways have really paid off. Course was nearly unrecognizable from the last time I had played it when conditioning Aesthetics were horrible. This is a course I could play everyday and not get bored with it. Tee selection ( I would play it from the tips to get the best views and challenge) is a major determination of the difficulty of the hole. the Tee boxes on number 16 and 17 in particular are so far from the distance and direction of the others that it could seem like you are playing a different hole than those at the other boxes. The only knock is that it is only 6600 from the tips. Longer and better players may find it too short, but I found the several over 400 yard Par 4s and over 200 yard Par 3 more than enough. The length comes off on some of the shorter par 4s but they still provide plenty of challenge. the course is presents tight fairways with waste areas framing the fairways and less tree trouble now. Playable from the waste areas but intimidating from the box."

“A resort course which can be played by any level of skill if they chose the correct tees. Holes 6,7,8,16,17,18 are the best."

“This Pete Dye course, opened for play in 1972, and is located on Amelia Island at the Omni Amelia Island Resort. It plays 6607 yds from the back tees and has small greens and relatively tight fairways. The front nine is lined with oaks framing the fairways and back nine is played over and around salt marshes and creeks."
