Overview
Architect Andrew Green has vaulted to the top of the design profession since 2017, primarily through his work renovating and restoring venerable historic courses like Inverness Club, Oak Hill East, Congressional, Scioto, East Lake and Interlachen. But he doesn’t just work on courses from Donald Ross and other classical masters. In 2023 he completed a significant renovation of the Pine Course at Grey Oaks in Naples, a 1993 Clifton-Ezell-Clifton design, one of the club’s three layouts. Every hole was redesigned in some capacity, with greens being shifted, bunkers added or subtracted and short grass chipping areas installed. Once considered the toughest of the Grey Oaks courses, Pine might now be the most flexible and approachable for both low handicap players and high handicap members.

“Andrew Green's 2023 renovation improved FW width expanded the greens, and added several bunkers and low-mow areas. The constraint on Pine, for any renovation or alteration, is that the land offers very little natural drama, and the course's character is more competent and polished than memorable. Grey Oaks' campus, however, is one of Naples' most complete private-club environments, including three 18-hole courses, tennis, pickleball, fitness and 3 restaurants. Once you're through the security gate you won't want to leave! Food, staff, and amenities are at the highest level. Enjoy!"

“Andrew Green's 2023 renovation took a "country club course catering to the 65+ age group" by improving FW width, expanding the greens, adding several bunkers (although the member I played with said that many of the additions were post-Green in 2024 and 2025) low-mow areas. From a Challenge standpoint, the course is 7,134 from the back tees. Given that very few club members play from the back, Green's alterations made Pine more playable and strategically flexible for the broadest set of members. The constraint on Pine, for any renovation or alteration, is that the land offers very little natural drama, and the course's character is more competent and polished than memorable. The most interesting holes are 3, 11, 16 and 18. Houses everywhere that look like hotels, just like Pine's sister courses, Palm and Estuary."
