Overview
This Robert Trent Jones Sr. layout hosted the LA Open in 1998 and 1999 and is known as being one of the most prestigious clubs in the Los Angeles area. After a seven-month renovation by Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design to restore RTJ's strategic intent, reduce water and rebuild or reposition most of the bunkers, Valencia Country Club re-opened in October 2022.

“Fine RTJ designed course with excellent clubhouse facilities that add to the overall experience. Jones used tree-lined fairways to define his routing, and placed more of a premium on tee shot placement than approach accuracy. Greens are wide and spacious, allowing for a great deal of variety in pin positions. They run hard and fast which place a premium on putting and some pin positions can increase the need for accuracy on the approach. Strategic use of bunkering combined with natural vegetation and trees really put an emphasis on the tee shot and success off the tee makes the second shot much easier. A fun course to play and one of the better tracks in southern California."

“A middle of the road club. The redo of the greens/bunkers greatly improved the players experience. The general condition of the turf, minus the greens, is severely lacking. Significant bare spots around the collars of every green. The par three's are difficult. Worth playing, but don't out of the way to do it."

“This course demands length and does have some water features that impact club selection. The greens have many different shapes that present a challenge. It is a fun golf course to play."

“Architect-Robert Trent Jones, Sr.-1965 Renovation 2023 by Jason Straka and Dana Fry. Located 30 minutes north of Los Angeles, this private tree lined course has challenging green complexes and is heavily bunkered. The green stayed original, collars were added. Over 100 trees were removed and the entire course was re-grassed. Bunkers were completely redone, deepened, and many more were added. Fairway bunkers and green side bunkers are much more penalizing because they have higher lips. The original routing stayed the same"

“Outstanding Private Club originally designed by RTJ Sr and recently remodeled by moving bunkers, removing trees and changing to a new strain of grasses that provides better playing conditions while saving water. High quality golf course that requires every club in the bag. Tough driving course, well bunkered (fairways and around the greens), nicely tree lined, a few lakes with outstanding greens. If you get the chance a real treat to play."
