“This a beautiful example of parkland style course built in 1921. Typical of courses of this era the greens are smallish with copious amounts of slope. The beautiful, natural routing through the gorgeous terrain will force you remember to focus on the golf at hand. The uphill par 5 14th is a beautiful and will hold its own against any other hole you have played."

“This a parkland style course is beautifully routed through a hilly, semi mountainous setting. Originally built in 1921 by George C. Thomas, Jr and William C. Bell the club was first known as Ventura County Country Club. This is a great example of courses built in that era. There are constant elevation changes and a different lie for every shot. Distance control, accuracy and length in balance and constantly required to score. As an older course it has smallish size greens with copious amounts of slope, the greens are too old fashioned for modern green speeds, although the conditioning was very good, the greens were firm but receptive. Frankly the greens speeds were much too fast, which limits the number of "reasonable" pin positions forcing you to constantly putt severe defensively manner. As an older course the holes lack variety of design; other than the shorter par fours, the balance of the par fours have bunkers at the same distance off of the tee and there is little variety of the clubs used for approach shots; par fives are all true three shots holes and there are no drivable par fours present in modern designs. The uphill par five 14th is a good and beautiful as any I have seen."

“Fun layout and enjoyable variety! Course was challenging, especially when the greens are quick!"

“Terrific layout set in rolling hills adding slope considerations to many shots. Back tees are a stern test. Typical conditions are firm and fast. When the greens are firm, there are 5 holes with serious false front or similar features that need to be accounted for."

“Extremely firm and fast greens. Nearly too fast for the green shapes as balls can easily move off the green. Bunkers strategically placed. Fairways in pretty good shape, fast and firm. Good rounded set of par 3s."

“Very nice private club in Ventura County. Bill Bell design with a great variety of holes (uphill, downhill, doglegs, long, short) built into the rolling hills between Camarillo and Santa Paula. Must be strategic with Tee shots and more so with irons into the greens as the greens can be treacherous when fast and your ball not properly positioned. Best course you have never heard of in SoCal."

“Course was a big disappointment. The 2nd hole is literally one of the weirdest holes I’ve ever seen in golf. The food was ok. The driving range was elevated and into the wind. Another course that could easily be turned into a public course"

“This is a private course and very challenging. A little rough around the edges but the course has hosted many qualifying tournaments over the years. It is a diamond in the rough and needs to have some additional funds spent on it. One of the best values in a private club that you will find in California."

“14 was an interesting par 5 that was challenging--more so visually than in reality, which I enjoyed. So many of the holes required uphill approach shots, so that lack of variety for risk or challenging was disappointing."
