Overview
The Rim Golf Club sits about an hour-and-a-half northeast of Scottsdale, and unlike many traditional desert layouts, the Tom Weiskopf design is a mountain course with plenty of trees and elevation changes. The fairways are framed by towering Ponderosa pines and dramatic rock outcroppings. Situated at 5,000 feet elevation, the course plays much shorter than its scorecard distance, which ranges from 5,200 to 7,200 yards. The scenic layout was ranked 52nd on our 100 Greatest Public list in 2011-2012.

“Fairly equal test of length, accuracy and finesse, although the risk/reward for trying a booming drive was pretty high on the risk low on the reward. More of a reward for accuracy/finesse risk. Course conditioning was decent for Arizona mountain fall, course was a little mushy in spots, generally fast but not really firm - maybe due to member preference? Nice mix of uphill, downhill, sidehill shots, some strategic doglegs and challenging par 3 greens. Scenery and aesthetics were good, typical mountain beauty."

“A pretty good and immaculately-kept golf course. The course moves back and forth so often between spectacular, mundane, intriguing, and holes that try too hard that it's a bit tough to see the course as a whole. Regardless, Payson is a lovely place to play golf!"
