Overview
PK, as Peninsula Kingswood is called locally, bears all the technicolor elements that define the Melbourne Sand Belt: wavy contour, thick coastal flora, ornate bunkers eating into the edges of greens and glassy surfaces non-Australians can find hard to deal with. A newcomer to Melbourne’s upper golf tier, it’s the result of a merger of two longstanding independent clubs in 2013 that catalyzed a total reconstruction of the 36 holes by the firm of Ogilvy, Cocking and Mead (OCM) along with former partner Mike Clayton. The overhaul, opened in 2019, was a project of personal importance to Cocking, a longtime member of the facility. His work here, including the remodel of the 18-hole South Course, has been undertaken with the same devotion as Donald Ross' modifications of his beloved #2 course at Pinehurst, or Pete Dye's revamping of Crooked Stick or Harbour Town.
