Overview

Originally designed in the early 1950s, Vestavia recently underwent a complete redesign led by architect Lester George. George rerouted the layout and created all-new holes. The renovated course debuted as No. 4 on our 2018 list of Best New Private Courses. The new layout includes wider fairways with fewer trees, opening up beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. There are several classic template holes at Vestavia, including the Redan green at the 13th and the Biarritz green at the 15th.

“Complete remodel by Lester George bringing out many fun design features on a piece of land that offers the best views of any course in the Birmingham area. Shot Values and Resistance to scoring suffer a bit as one does not have to be particularly long or accurate off the tee to play most all holes. Design variety is very strong w/ the remodel w/ using uphill/downhill, different green features, bunker placement, and hole lengths. Holes 11 thru 14 are standout holes on the back 9 offering good challenge and amazing scenery. 3, 6, and 9 offer some great risk reward options on the front 9. Aesthetics would be much higher if not for the over abundance of cart paths everywhere but understand that as a necessary evil on a country club w/ 900 members, very walkable overall when comfortable temperatures are present"
