Scoring 101: The 5 Requirements

Adam Kolloff

Shooting better scores is the whole point, right? Check out these five video lessons on scoring: driving it better, hitting more greens and lighting it up inside 100 yards.

The 10-Yard Draw

Everybody wants to lower their scores, no matter if you’re shooting in the 100s, 80s, or even 70s. The process starts at the tee box, where you need to hit the ball as long and straight as you possibly can. To do this, a draw is the preferred ball flight. In this video, Golf Digest Best Young Teacher Adam Kolloff shows you how to achieve that desired tee shot.

Learn to Hit Hybrids

It’d be nice to rip 3 or 4-iron as far and accurately as the pros do, but the reality is that most amateurs can’t do that with consistency. That’s where the hybrid comes in. It’s a much more forgiving club that can get you on the green more often from longer distances. In this lesson, Adam Kolloff teaches you how to launch hybrids high and straight.

Master Your Wedges

How many times have you crushed a long drive and walked away with a double bogey or worse? This is likely because you hit a poor wedge shot on your approach, got frustrated and then made another mistake. To avoid this chain of errors, master your wedges and start scoring from inside 100 yards. Here Adam Kolloff breaks down how you can stick those short second shots close to the pin.

Become A Great Pitcher

Often you’ll see that a tour pro shot a low number and think that he or she must have hit every green, had a bunch of close birdie looks and rolled in some putts. But chances are there were a bunch of up-and-down par saves in there—the best players in the world make that look so simple. In this video, Adam Kolloff teaches you the No. 1 shot you need around the greens to scramble like the pros.

4:53

Make More Putts

Even if you’ve mastered the tee-to-green part, you still need to make putts, especially inside five feet, if you want to shoot your best scores. Two-putting from makeable range is not going to cut it, so you need to convert when you have the chance. In this video lesson, Adam Kolloff shares his best tips on how to hole five-footers—plus, some other putting gems.
