WTGL Power Rankings: An inside look at the teams and players competing in Year 1

Like “Yellowstone” or “NCIS”, the success of TGL, the simulator league developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy has prompted the development of a spin-off league.

The Women’s TGL (WTGL) starts its inaugural season Nov. 8, with a media day to kick things off coming this Sunday. Five teams will compete over 10 regular season matches covering eight weeks until a champion is crowned on Dec. 23.

Twenty-five LPGA pro from 12 countries have come together to form the five squads from the six TGL cities: Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles and New York. Each team retains the name of their TGL counterpart. Just like the men’s TGL, teams of three players will take the SoFi Center stage and compete in two formats (triples and singles) over 15 holes. Once again, win a hole and the team receives a point, most points at the end of 15 holes wins the match, and don’t forget THE HAMMER!

That’s my role for Golf Digest; predict the future. It sounds enviable, but the fact is when it comes to ranking the five teams, in an inaugural season, playing a brand-new form of golf, it can get complicated. Fear not as Read The Line not only covers the LPGA every week, but no wagering firm has spent more time in the SoFi Center. With our player knowledge and TGL experience, here’s a breakdown for who will win Season 1 of the WTGL.

The Key

• Roster: Each team is composed of five LPGA pros. Matches only require three players, starting lineups will be released the Friday before each match week.
• Average Rolex Ranking: A measure of the team’s world ranking.
• Average Age: Will fatigue set in for players? The season starts while the LPGA schedule is ending its 10-plus month season.
• Team Career Wins (Majors): Which team has the most trophies (majors).
• Skill Rankings: A WTGL ranking of the four most important SoFi Center stats: driving distance, approach proximity, short game and putting. The skill ranking is based on every player’s ranking on the LPGA and then taking the average for each team.
• WTGL Match dates: The regular season match calendar for each club (all matches air on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2).
• Notes: A quick summary for each WTGL team and their chances to win the inaugural season title.

5. Los Angeles Golf Club

Two big questions surround Los Angeles Golf Club. Kiara Romero is 20 years old with only eight LPGA starts and three made cuts in 2026. Michelle Wie West, who stepped away from full time play on the LPGA Tour, has played two competitive tournaments in the last three years. SoFi Center golf is not necessarily tournament golf, but we have seen players such as Tiger Woods and Kevin Kisner come in rusty and not win. LAGC’s Season 1 success and/or struggles are going to be purely lineup-dependent. What’s going for the team is Alison Lee’s resurgence post-motherhood (4-0-0 at the Solheim Cup), Gaby López’s putter and Aki Iwai’s ball-striking prowess. Find the right mix over four matches, get to 2-2, and you may sneak into the playoffs. Their lineup to beat is Aki Iwai, Alison Lee, and Gaby López.

4. Atlanta Drive Golf Club

Roster: Nataliya Guseva, Charley Hull (above), Andrea Lee, Minjee Lee, Yuka Saso

Seventeen wins and five major championships sound impressive. What catches my attention even more is if ADGC TGL Team Coordinator Ben Helmrath took the helm of both teams. The Hammer savant has been the key to so many ADGC TGL victories with his influence. In line with their name, Atlanta Drive can send it off the tee with Yuka Saso and Nataliya Guseva. Important to match-play scoring, they can also put Charley Hull and Minjee Lee on their roster. Approach proximity and scrambling have them ranked fourth, but Andrea Lee can be an asset there. Their lineup to beat is Andrea Lee, Charley Hull, and Minjee Lee.

3. New York Golf Club

I love New York Golf Club’s match schedule; they play opening night against Los Angeles and then sit until the end of November. Playing their last three matches over the final four weeks of the regular season will give them an edge. NYGC also has a great mix of Hall of Fame play from Lydia Ko and rookie spark in Yana Wilson. Rose Zhang’s ball-striking is the alternate-shot foundation, while Danielle Kang’s competitive fire reminds me of Billy Horschel’s TGL drive. WTGL courses will require length, and Linn Grant’s ball speed is another valuable asset. The putting scares me, but many of their three-player combinations can beat any other WTGL team if NYGC uses their calendar to their advantage. Their lineup to beat is Lydia Ko, Rose Zhang, and Linn Grant.

2. Boston Common Golf

Boston Common has some great young talent: Lottie Woad, Ina Yoon and Chizzy Iwai may not be household names like Lexi Thompson, but don’t overlook them! Woad is a top-10 player in the world and T2G on the LPGA. Iwai can flat out score and is among the LPGA leaders for rounds in the 60s in 2026, and Yoon is a bomber who sits 10th on tour in SG: Total. Megan Khang is a great ball-striker and an exceptional team leader, while Celine Boutier is an impeccable iron player. I like this team to win some matches and if their short game and putting equal their iron play, they could easily find themselves in the finals. Their lineup to beat is Lottie Woad, Ina Yoon, and Celine Boutier.

1. Motor City Golf Club

Whoever was monitoring the WTGL draft fell asleep when Motor City Golf Club was on the clock. MCGC has three players ranked in the top 11 in the Rolex World Rankings: Jeeno Thitikul (2), Ronni Yin (6) and Brooke Henderson (11). And I didn’t even mention Lexi Thompson plays for them as well! Those four are joined by Albane Valenzuela, who is a top-20 iron player on tour and possesses a superb short game. My only hesitancy for not handing the Detroit the SoFi Cup right now is the schedule. Motor City’s first two matches are during two of the most important LPGA tournament weeks of the season! This high-octane team has the best combination of power, accuracy, and scoring, but can they stay focused in the SoFi Center? Their lineup to beat is Jeeno Thitikul, Ronni Yin, and Brooke Henderson.
