Watch this golf degenerate attempt to hitchhike onto every private course in Utah
A random golfer being added to your foursome is one thing. Picking up a fella with a sign loitering outside your club is both sketchy and also what the game’s all about. That’s exactly what Cal Norton, aka Country Club Hitchhiker, is hoping for. And so far, he’s had a damn good showing teeing off at private clubs across Utah.
An employee at a Lehi consulting company, Norton has a new side gig hanging outside golf courses with two simple signs: “$500 if you can beat me” and “Need a fourth?”

He accidentally started it all off by facing off against Utah Men's State Amateur medalist Ben Wilson at Sandy's Hidden Valley Country Club and hung on with a draw against Wilson’s younger brother. And since that first post a little over a month ago, he’s had rounds at Oakridge Country Club, Riverside Country Club, Willow Creek and more. He even briefly chatted with Tony Romo, which [REDACTED].

Of course, not everything has been birdies and gravy. He was blocked from trying his luck at Salt Lake Country Club, had a GM chat with him outside of Red Ledges and even had the cops called on him while dallying outside of Glenwild Rock. Luckily, Norton got a lenient sheriff who had this to say: “I don't really care if you're standing there. There’s nothing that says you can’t panhandle right here as long as you’re not impeding traffic or anything else. But we’ve had multiple complaints on you already.”

It’s not like Norton’s a bad golfer. According to his video outside of Ogden Country Club, he took the eventual Utah amateur champ to 22 holes in the first round at the members-only club. He got to win this time at Ogden, at least.
We’ll see where he ends up next, but it’s already been a pretty successful venture for this part-time run-of-the-mill guy and part-time golf degenerate. There’ll certainly be many more clips on the way, most likely featuring money changing hands, high-end neckerchiefs and hopefully less police interference.
