OAKMONT, Penn. — Greatness recognizes greatness, and on Saturday ahead of the third round at the 2025 U.S. Open, we got a masterclass from two legendary Oakmont champions: Jack Nicklaus and Johnny Miller.

After sharing some advice to the field about what it will take to win at Oakmont—"patience," Nicklaus said—they shifted their attention to one of those players who may well lift the trophy come Sunday.

    Scottie Scheffler.

Scroll to watch the pair's full comments (if you're a golf nerd, you'll be happy you did), but a few highlights:

    • Both Miller and Nicklaus think Scheffler's more upright golf swing helps him keep the clubface square.
    • They both agree Scheffler's steeper, more upright swing is hugely helpful out of the rough this week. They predict those with more sweeping, shallower golf swings will struggle.
    • Nicklaus says Scheffler's right foot moves back so his right hip can get out of the way, and give his arms space to swing through.
    • Miller analyzes Nicklaus' golf swing, and Nicklaus says he's never heard his swing analyzed like that before, then thanks him.
