U.S. Open 2025: A groom gifted U.S. Open bets to his wedding party, and now we’re fully invested in this potential payday
Alan Crowhurst
If you’ve been in a wedding party recently, you know how much of a financial commitment it ends up being. Renting a suit or tux, traveling to a bachelor/bachelorette party, wedding gifts, lodging for a hotel … you might be in the hole for a couple grand to celebrate your good friend.
One groom is paying it forward with a fantastic gift to his groomsmen with a U.S. Open theme to allow one of his buddies to recoup most of his money. And we’re all for it.
A user on X, @WKFNate, shared the story about the groom giving out $25 outright betting tickets for the U.S. Open with his wedding falling on U.S. Open week. (I’d say poor timing and planning, but my wedding was during the 2019 Open Championship, so I can’t judge.)
Nate ended up getting a free Viktor Hovland 55-1 betting slip that he could cash in for $1,375. The ticket has some strong value with the Norwegian starting Sunday’s final round just three shots back of the lead. Now we’re sure his entire friend group will be pulling hard for Hovland to come through on Sunday.
We applaud the groom for the creativity with the groomsmen gift. It’s a degenerate move for sure, but we’re not here to judge. We just hope Nate will split some of the money with the groom if Hovland lifts the Havemeyer Trophy on Sunday at Oakmont. We established that Nate already has reached into his pocket a ton by being in the wedding party. But hey, at least send the happy couple money for a few drinks on their honeymoon for this surprise Sunday sweat. That’s one way to get over a wedding hangover.
