U.S. Open 2024: Watch Rory McIlroy putt one off the green(!)—and still make par(!!)

Rory McIlroy made Pinehurst No. 2 look easier than anyone else on Thursday with a bogey-free 65 that gave him a share of the first-round lead. But like most golfers, McIlroy is finding things a bit tougher out there on Friday.
Beginning on the back nine, the four-time major champ finally made his first blemish of the week on No. 11. Then added another bogey on No. 15. And on No. 17, it looked like he'd drop a least another shot for sure after an unusual occurrence.
McIlroy found the green on the par 3, but then putted his birdie attempt off the green. Crazy. But even crazier is that he followed that up by chipping in. Have a look at what has to be one of the wildest pars of McIlroy's career.
Incredible. And who knows? Come Sunday, this could be the sequence we're crediting for McIlroy finally ending his decade-long major championship drought.
After holing his chip, you can see McIlroy give a wave to the crowd with his head down almost as if he's ashamed. But as they always say, there are no pictures—or videos—on the scorecard. And there are no bad pars at a U.S. Open.
