2026 Tour Championship tee times, TV coverage, viewer's guide

Well, here we go: $40 million is up for grabs this week's Tour Championship at East Lake. So is the FedEx Cup title and all of the bragging rights that come with it. Scottie Scheffler will tee off for the fifth straight year ranked No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings, but he’s only won the Tour Championship once, back in 2024. Last year’s victor, Tommy Fleetwood, has a chance to become the first back-to-back champion, and with a victory in Atlanta, Rory McIlroy can bring his tally up to four.
After last week’s BMW Championship, three golfers were able to jump into the 30-player field this week, most notably Patrick Cantlay, whose second-place finish vaulted him from No. 43 to No. 19. Gary Woodland’s T-4 and Robert MacIntyre’s T-7 were enough for both to pick up four more rounds. And with those successes, Kurt Kitayama, Rickie Fowler and Bud Cauley were bumped.

After the PGA Tour reversed the nines for the 2016 Tour Championship (flipping the unpopular par-3 finish into the ninth hole), the club made the new routing permanent for regular play. East Lake underwent another major restoration following the 2023 Tour Championship, this time by Andrew Green, that focuses on bringing back the course's Donald Ross heritage. Green used a 1949 aerial to inform the replacement of bunkers and the shape of greens, which are much larger and possess a wider variety of hole locations and slopes than before. Almost every hole was dramatically revamped, creating a course that poses driving options and requires the careful calibration of each shot rather than a mere test of straight hitting. The result is a massive jump in our rankings.
This will be the second straight year the tournament will be played without a staggered start, but rather a simple 72-hole stroke-play event, but it appears things will be changing (again) soon. Like the World Cup, we’re set to see a two-week match-play postseason event featuring the top 32 earners on the season-long points list come 2028.
But for now, Fleetwood will have a chance to repeat at East Lake. The Brit won his first PGA Tour title last season with a final-round 68, besting Cantlay and Russell Henley by three shots. A 64-63 to start his week certainly didn’t hurt, and he held on to the victory despite two back-nine bogeys in his final round.
This week’s winner will receive a $10 million cut of the $40 million purse.
