A difficult discussion about Grayson Murray, plus Lexi Thompson and Kay Cockerill on the U.S. Women's Open

The topic of Grayson Murray's unfortunate passing over the weekend is not an easy one to discuss. It's not one to be glossed over on a podcast or summed up in a social media post. I found it particularly difficult to talk about given Murray and I are almost the same age, and the thought of that has been unable to escape my mind ever since I saw the same notification we all saw on Saturday morning - "PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray dead at 30."

In the little time we had, though, myself, Alex Myers and Stephen Hennessey did our best to broach the subject in the most respectful way possible on this week's episode of The Loop podcast. We discussed his complicated career, how it was covered by the media and ways we could all be better when it comes to treating each other with respect and dealing with mental health.

We did also chat about golf, too, and there is plenty of it at the professional level this week. Lexi Thompson, who announced her retirement in the middle of our recording, was our first guest as we previewed the U.S. Women's Open at Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pa. It will be her 18th start in the event and possibly her last in wake of the announcement. NBC Sports/Golf Channel commentator Kay Cockerill also joined us to break down the second women's major of the year.
