LPGA cancels the Taiwan Swinging Skirts for a second straight year due to COVID

For the second straight year the LPGA’s Taiwan Swinging Skirts tournament has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

LPGA officials announced on Thursday that the 2021 event, set for Oct. 28-31 at Miramar Golf Country Club in New Taipei City, has been shuttered. It marks the third tournament on the LPGA’s 2021 schedule that has been canceled due to COVID, joining the Blue Bay LPGA in China, skipped in May; and the CP Women’s Open in Canada, set late August.

“We are thankful to Swinging Skirts, the Sports Administration, Ministry of Education, GAROC, and IMG for their continued support and efforts in trying to conduct the 2021 tournament,” the LPGA said in the statement. “The LPGA Tour and Swinging Skirts remain committed in the event’s return to the 2022 tour schedule.”

Nelly Korda remains the tournament’s “defending” champion having won the title in 2018 in a playoff over Caroline Masson and Minjee Lee.
