Phil's flop
Standing sideways to the pin in a bunker, Phil Mickelson holes out this insane sky-high flop shot

In a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world, it’s common to suggest that whatever happened recently is the best-ever. To that end, we present Phil Mickelson’s insane flop shot Sunday late in the final round of LIV Golf’s Virginia event at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville.
The 54-year-old six-time major champ was in contention on the 17th hole when he hit his approach shot left, the ball ending in rough outside the bank of a bunker. So, Phil did what he always does, he attempted a shot that only he would think about and pulled it off in amazing fashion.
Watch it here:
You can see that Mickelson is standing in the bunker standing sideways, with his back nearly to the pin. He opens the clubface of his wedge as much as he can, takes a mighty swing and, well, holes the shot for birdie. A truly amazing scene.
If you don’t want to go out on a limb and say that it’s the best flop shot you’ve ever seen, that’s fine. But it certainly is ONE of the best we’ve ever seen.
"So that was one of my better ones. It was one of my better ones," Mickelson said. "I don't know what to say because I have to aim so far left because I'm hooking it over my shoulder and trying to guess how much it's going to hook is the challenge. But it wasn't hard stopping it. It was hard guessing how much it was going to hook because it was soft greens and I had such an uphill lie, the ball was going to go high, but just judging how much the ball was going to come over my shoulder, that was the challenge. Even I was a little bit surprised."
Phil Mickelson, still doing his thing in 2025, the week before what he said earlier this week could be his last U.S. Open, and thus, his last attempt at winning the career Grand Slam. He shot 67-68-65 in Virginia to tie for fourth place at 13 under par, two shots behind winner Joaquin Niemann.
