Smylie Kaufman is 'by far the best ever' at this drinking game, according to hockey legend T.J. Oshie
James Gilbert
American hero T.J. Oshie has started an incredible American tradition at the American Century Championship - a "beer pong / flip cup / baseball" drinking game. One that got so out of hand last year in Tahoe that the fire marshal showed up and began kickng people out. That sound you hear in the distance is the beginning of the Star Spangled Banner.
On the latest episode of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, the former St. Louis Blue and Washington Capital says the game has gotten so big that someone has asked to sponsor it at next year's ACC. This year's edition of the game even featured a pre-game hype video. Many of the tournament's stars show up to compete, including NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield, actor Miles Teller and "Saturday Night Live's" Colin Jost, just to name a few.
"I had guys coming up to me on the range on Saturday this year and they're like 'hey, how do I get in this game'?" said Oshie. "I'm like, we're just having fun, it's not a game. We're just having fun."
Oshie can undersell it all he wants, but this game, which takes place in a lounge in one of the casinos, sounds like it's turning into the main event on ACC week. And the star of the show? According to Oshie, it's the one and only Smylie Kaufman.
"He's by far the best player, flip cup player, beer pong player, I've ever seen," Oshie said of Kaufman. High praise from a former NHLer. Those guys know how to get after it (take a gander at some of the videos from the 2018 Washington Capitals Stanley Cup celebration, which Oshie was a part of, for a taste of that).
Even Mrs. Oshie is in awe. That's some serious talent, Smylie.
Of course, Kaufman was instantly humbled by one of the hosts of the podcast, Paul Bissonnette, interjecting with "who's Smylie Kaufman?" You win some, you lose some.
