Save for later

A 34th-place tie never felt so good.

In this case, it was just good enough to give Sean Crocker a DP World Tour card for 2027. The 30-year-old journeyman who played his college golf at USC ended the week at exactly 100th place, the very last position in the Race to Dubai standings that earns exempt status.

But it wasn’t quite that simple, of course.

Crocker made three bogeys over the first nine holes Sunday at the Genesis Championship in Korea and was outside the top 100. But he birdied the 10th and 11th holes to give himself a glimmer of hope. Then, out of nowhere, he birdied each of the last four holes to shoot 68 at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club. When the calculations were done, he was exactly 100th place, edging out Eddie Pepperell for the last position.

“That was probably one of the better back nines I’ve ever played with circumstances and everything going on there,” Crocker said.

On the 15th hole, Crocker holed a birdie from eight feet and it was from four feet on the par-3 16th. On the par-4 17th hole, her drained a birdie from 31 feet and got up and down on the home hole for the final birdie.

Crocker’s lone European Tour victory came in 2022 when he won the Hero Open in Scotland. That week he topped, coincidentally, Pepperell – the same man he clipped this week for the final tour card. He only has two top-20 finishes on tour this year, but they came in the two events previous to this week.
