Seamus Power withdraws from Zurich after positive COVID-19 test

Seamus Power was forced to withdraw from this week’s Zurich Classic on Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19. Zack Sucher will replace Power in the field at TPC Louisiana and as the teammate of David Hearn, who was originally scheduled to play with the 34-year-old Irishman.

Power is the first player on the PGA Tour in almost a month to have to WD because of coronavirus, with Gary Woodland, Scott Piercy and Doc Redman the last players to test positive at last month’s Honda Classic.

With partial status on the PGA Tour, Power’s last start came at last week’s Korn Ferry Tour event in Las Vegas, where he tied for ninth. Sucher has missed each of his last two cuts on the Korn Ferry and PGA Tours.

Earlier this week, the tour informed players that it will cease its on-site COVID-19 testing operations in July. Players who are not fully vaccinated, however, will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 result at their own expense within 72 hours of arriving at a tournament. Players who do get vaccinated will be exempt from testing.
