AUSTIN—In a rematch of last year's WGC-Dell Match Play championship match, Scottie Scheffler advanced 1 up against Billy Horschel in the round of 16, and the critical moment in the tight match came at the par-5 16th hole. There, with both players tied, Billy Horschel blasted a 316-yard drive, then hit a fine 220-yard approach just short of the hole. Standard, solid stuff.

But Scheffler? Folks, Scheffler was neither standard nor solid at first. After getting away with an errant drive (the swing alone was hilarious), he rocketed his second well past the green. He was lucky the fence kept it in the yard—and then ...

Well, and then came the magic from the mulch:

The end result was a birdie for Scheffler, while poor Billy Horschel made a standard par and somehow lost the hole. That, as they say, is match play.

Scheffler has his revenge for '21, and is on to Saturday afternoon and a round of eight clash with Seamus Power. And if you're keeping track at home, he's now 8-2-1 in his WGC-Match Play career.
