Scottie Scheffler is halfway to breaking this once seemingly unbreakable Tiger Woods record

As the saying goes, "Records are meant to be broken." But many golf fans would be shocked if that winds up being the case with several records set by Tiger Woods.
Scottie Scheffler, however, will pass the halfway mark of one seemingly unbreakable Tiger milestone this week. And it doesn't matter how he plays.
Scheffler is making his 2026 PGA Tour debut at the American Express, but this will be his 141st consecutive week being No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Woods holds the record for consecutive weeks atop the OWGR with 281, set from June 12, 2005 to Oct. 30, 2010.
Scheffler began his latest and fourth overall stint at World No. 1 on May 21, 2023. As the X account TrackingScheffler notes, he would need to stay No. 1 until Oct. 16, 2028 to break Woods' record.
So, Scheffler still has a long way to go, but it doesn't seem that crazy at this point. Especially when you consider how dominant he's been, winning the PGA Tour Player of the Year Award each of the past four years.
By the way, Woods also holds the record for total weeks at World No. 1 with 683. With Scheffler at 175, that means the 29-year-old needs to stay atop the ranking for about another decade to top that. Now that's a record we're not sure was made to be broken.
