Ryder Cup 2025: This Rory McIlroy heckle was so good that even Rory McIlroy laughed
Ryder Cup preview week finally, mercifully has ended and everyone is ready for the real thing to start on Friday. But while we eagerly await watching the golfers hit shots that actually matter, it was a fan at Bethpage Black who provided Thursday's top highlight.
The New York crowd has been a hot topic heading into the latest edition of the biennial event and is bound to be heavily scrutinized this week. One man, however, proved you can heckle players without crossing any lines.
Thanks to golf personality Gary Williams for capturing this lighthearted moment during Team Europe's final practice round. Have a look and listen as Rory McIlroy is trying to adjust a button on his shirt when someone blurts out a sharp line:
"You don't need a button to choke, Rory!" What a line!
As you can see, even Rory himself chuckles—so do a couple of his teammates—as he points back and says, "That's a good one." And he's heard a lot of comments in his career so he's a pretty good judge.
Anyway, let's try to keep the barbs on this level for the next three days, everyone.
