What you need to know: PXG brings the next installment of its wedges to market, the Stick‘em Forged. The wedges are fully forged with a clean, tour-inspired profile. Among the features are high-toe weighting, progressive center-of-gravity placement, and optimized groove spacing to promote consistent launch, stability, and spin throughout the set.

Price/Availability: $199 (Chrome); $219 (Xtreme Dark). Available immediately in six lofts (50 to 60 degrees).

3 Cool Things

1. Forging on

The wedges are three-times forged from 8620 soft carbon steel, a process that refines the metal’s grain structure with each strike. This repeated forging creates a tighter, more uniform grain structure that delivers a softer feel at impact along with a crisp, satisfying sound. Beyond feel, the triple-forging process increases the material’s overall strength, helping grooves maintain their sharpness longer for maximum spin.

“The short game is where players either gain confidence or lose it,” said Mike Nicolette, PXG senior director of engineering. “The goal was to give golfers a wedge that performs predictably shot after shot. The head stays stable when you open the face, the grooves generate reliable spin, and the forged construction delivers the soft feedback players rely on to judge distance and touch around the green. When a wedge reacts exactly the way a player expects, it frees them up to be more aggressive and creative.”

2. Groove move

The grooves are wider, increasing the cross-sectional area, allowing the groove edges to engage the ball cover more effectively while channeling away grass, moisture and debris. At the same time, tighter groove spacing increases the likelihood that an additional groove edge interacts with the ball during impact. The combination creates more reliable spin generation and improved trajectory control.

The grooves combine with high-toe weighting to produce a reliable launch. Moving weight to the toe increases the moment of inertia and positions the center of gravity in line with open-face shots. This promotes a more consistent trajectory across the face.

3. A boss move on grinds

When company founder and CEO Bob Parsons wants something, he gets it. In this instance, the continuation of the BP grind. The grind has a generous 13 degrees of bounce and a wider sole. Combined these traits make for a very playable, forgiving wedge for a variety of shots for the player with a relatively steep angle of attack.

Also continuing is the S-grind with 10 degrees bounce to accommodate a wide variety of shots. A tapered sole with heel and toe relief provides added versatility, allowing players to open the face and execute creative short-game shots from a variety of lies.
