Presidents Cup 2024: Scottie Scheffler overheard telling fans what being in jail was really like
It's been the Year of Scottie Scheffler in men's golf, but overshadowing all his wins on the course was that (brief) stint he spent in the slammer. And rightly so.
After all, we'll see other great golfers have great seasons (although, maybe not quite this great), but it's hard to imagine a World No. 1 getting arrested on his way to a major championship again. So while we've heard plenty from the man himself about having handcuffs slapped on shortly before his second-round tee time at the PGA Championship four months ago, people are still curious as to what that wild experience in Louisville was like.
And on the driving range at Royal Montreal ahead of this week's Presidents Cup, Scheffler was overheard telling some fans what being in jail was really like. "Boring." Yep, boring.
Check out this video in which Scheffler answers a couple questions about the ordeal and reiterates how stunned he was to wind up in that situation.
"Jail is kinda boring to be honest with you," Scheffler says in the video, sounding like a veteran of the U.S. penal system. "I needed something to do."
Scottie must not have had time to enjoy the set of weights in the prison yard. Or the net-less basketball hoop.
In any event, we're pretty sure that's the last time Scottie will get locked up. But if the Internationals are going to have a chance against Team USA this weekend at Royal Montreal, they might need the Canadian Mounties to get involved.
