‘PLEASE HELP ME’: Eagles legend Jason Kelce seeks golf wisdom from unlikeliest of places

Jason Kelce is a Super Bowl champion, a 7-time All-Pro and a likely Pro Football Hall of Famer. And yet, none of that matters on the golf course. Out on the links, he’s trying to make things work just like the rest of us, and it looks like he’s struggling …

The man’s been working with a coach, but the best advice comes from unlikely places. Thus, Kelce turned to Reddit, a notoriously chill, not mean at all website.

The 37-year-old posted “PLEASE HELP ME FIX MY SWING” and attached some footage of what he’s working with. The comments range from actual advice to “Happy Gilmore” memes to “Go Birds!” The internet is beautiful sometimes.

“Hey Reddit golfers, Jason Kelce here. Now that I've hung up the cleats, I'm trying to get serious about my golf game. I've uploaded 6 different angles of my swing from a session yesterday. Looking for any tips you can give me - especially on my backswing and follow-through. Been working with a local pro in Philly, but figured I'd get some crowd-sourced wisdom too. Thanks in advance. -Kelce”

Since Kelce dropped the r/golfswing post on Sunday, there have been nearly 500 comments with over 2,700 upvotes, including the very helpful advice, “It's not Aaron Donald. You don't have to hit it so hard. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” Most of the guidance echoes that, to slow the swing down and smooth it out a bit. Easier said than done, of course, but if anyone’s going to figure the game out, it’ll be one of the top athletes of the last decade.

This isn’t a brand-new undertaking for Kelce as he needed a new athletic endeavor after retiring from football in March 2024. At the end of last year, Kelce hopped on “The Golfer’s Journal Podcast,” and admitted that he’s still trying to break 80.

“I've been dating with golf for a long time, starting to get more serious,” Kelce said. “We're thinking about a long-term commitment here now. A lot of former players golf. Now that I'm not, you know, getting all of my competitive energy out playing football, that is a real loss that you don't have, and golf is a really, really good avenue that doesn't destroy my brain or knees or ankles.

“To be able to go out and mainly compete with myself, but also compete with other guys out there, too. You know, all these guys you spend a lot of time with playing friends, whoever. You get to go out, enjoy a round together and compete, and it's something that I think now that I don't have football and basketball would hurt way too much. It's a good place to go. So I think it's getting serious.”

It doesn’t get more serious than diving into Reddit for answers, and it’s incredible to see the community come together to help one of their own, even if this golfer in particular could pancake block the rest of us into oblivion.

“No f*cking way my man Kelce came in to this sub,” one Redditor exclaimed. “Holy sh*t this is cool as hell,” added another. “Jason Kelce wants our advice, guys.”
