Players 2026: Why doesn't Cameron Young smile more? We'll let him explain
Jared C. Tilton
Does Cameron Young have teeth? We think so, but it’s not like we’ve seen his pearly whites in public much over the past few years.
He doesn’t smile much, that’s not a secret. We know it. He knows it.
Last year there weren’t many smiles from him at Bethpage Black on Sunday when he went out first for the Americans in the Ryder Cup and beat Justin Rose. It paved the way for a massive U.S. comeback that almost made history. Almost
A month prior to that Young captured his first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship and there weren’t noticeable smiles. He even won by six shots.
Sunday at the Players Championship was more of the same. He didn’t have his family with him at the Wyndham so perhaps there would be more smiles at TPC Sawgrass because his wife and three children were there. Not really.
After shooting a final-round 68 to beat Matt Fitzpatrick by a shot to capture his second tour title, Young met with the media, with the Players trophy sitting on the desk next to him and was asked about his happiness. More directly, he was asked why he was not smiling more.
“I think if you asked my wife, she would say he's a very, very happy person. And I am. I mean, I love my life, I love my family, I love my job. I couldn't ask for much more. I'm healthy. I have healthy little children,” he said. “I just think it's more for me about I think that's the best way for me to play the best.
“Now why am I not happy? I am,” he said with a chuckle. “I don't know. I'm thinking to answer questions and my brain is very tired after playing that golf course for four days. So it takes a lot for me to come up with a reasonable answer.
“I think just generally you're not going to get a ton out of me, but it doesn't mean that I'm not, you know, very, very happy to be sitting here with this.”
