The Farmers Insurance Open's most-bet player might surprise you

Not surprisingly, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy are the two betting favorites for this week's Farmers Insurance Open. But you have to scroll down the board a bit to find the golfer getting the most action at Torrey Pines.
According to BetMGM, it's Matthew Wolff who leads the field in both number of tickets and handle. The 33-to-1 Wolff makes up 7.3 percent of tickets and 9.3 percent of all the money bet thus far on the tournament.
McIlroy (9-1 to win) has drawn the same amount of money and is second in tickets at 5.6 percent. Rahm (+650) is at 3.7 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively.
The 21-year-old Wolff is still stuck on one PGA Tour win, which came in just his third professional start at the 2019 3M Open. He was a 54-hole leader at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last year and finished T-4 at the PGA Championship and runner-up at the U.S. Open, his first two starts in major championships.
So obviously, the talent and the track record is there for him to get plenty of love from gamblers. Many are also likely jumping on him before he starts being priced like one of the favorites.
Wolff is currently tied with Jason Day for the 10th-best odds in the field, but a second win this week would cause the odds to be severely slashed before his next start. Same with the Masters, for which you can still bet him at 50 to 1. Just a thought. . .
