One of golf’s most highly anticipated course openings of 2023 is here with Fields Ranch’s West course opening this week at the brand-new Omni PGA Frisco facility. The East course, designed by Gil Hanse and his team, will follow at the end of the month—as both layouts are open to the public.
The West course, designed by Beau Welling, whose team served as the master planners of the entire PGA Frisco complex, features 75-yard-wide fairways on average, making this a fun, playable test with strategically placed bunkers and interesting green complexes to think your way around. Welling continues to make a name for himself while also serving as Tiger Woods’ senior design consultant.
The East course, designed by Gil Hanse and his team, is set to host a number of prestigious events, including the PGA Championship (2027, 2034), the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (2025, 2031), the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship (2023, 2029).
Golf Digest will also host the national championship of its inaugural Golf Digest Open at PGA Frisco at the end of October. Players who win their gross or net division at our eight regional qualifiers will have their entry fees paid for into the national finals at Fields Ranch—you can find out more details here.
The PGA of America moving its headquarters to North Texas was a big deal, and the new course facility is a huge deal for the organization, which will host the PGA Championship in two weeks at Oak Hill Country Club’s East course.
