Two rounds in the books at Valhalla Golf Club with two rounds to go. As the 2024 PGA Championship reaches the halfway point—a little later than expected with the second round spilling into Saturday morning and then delayed further by fog—the leaderboard is an intriguing mix of major champions and players looking for a breakthrough victory.

Xander Schauffele, with 12 top-10s but no wins in majors, holds a one-shot lead on Collin Morikawa, a two-time major winner at just age 27. Schauffele followed up a PGA Championship record 62 on Thursday with a three-under 68 to sit at 12 under for the championship as hepositions himself for chance at grabbing an elusive first major.

In third place two shots back of Schauffele is Sahith Theegala, playing in just his ninth major but ranked No. 23 in the world and a star on the rise at age 26.

Arguably, though, all eyes at Valhalla are on Scottie Scheffler. The World No. 1 and reigning Masters champ is three shots off the lead in a tie for fourth—despite the fact that he played second round on Friday only hours after being arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club when he was involved in a traffic dispute with a Louisville police officer.

Because of the delayed resumption of play on Saturday, the PGA of America had to change its plans for the third round. While hoping to have the 78 players who made the cut play in twosomes off the first tee starting at 9 a.m., competitors will now play in threesomes starting off the first and 10th tees. Here’s a look at the complete tee times for Saturday’s third round.

Given a difficult piece of land on which to create Valhalla (half the site was floodplain, with high-tension power poles), Jack Nicklaus drew on his training under Pete Dye and Desmond Muirhead to produce a unique design, with an alternate fairway par 5, a par 4 with an island green and an 18th green shaped like a horseshoe. Over the decades, Nicklaus returned periodically to update its challenges, and the club rebuilt bunkers and replaced its soft bent grass fairways with firmer, faster zoysia in 2022. Valhalla has proven to be a great championship site. It has hosted three thrilling PGA Championships, the latest Rory McIlroy’s win in 2014, and will host a fourth in 2024.
