PGA Championship 2024: Fan strips down and retrieves golf club from pond to cap wildest day in major championship history

May 17, 2024

When it comes to wild images in golf history, it's going to be tough to ever top seeing the World No. 1 handcuffed and posing for a mug shot in an orange jumpsuit ahead of his tee time. But Friday at Valhalla gave golf fans another unusual visual that you probably didn't see.

It involves a golf club (thrown?) in a (possibly snake-infested) pond and a brave insane fan going into the water to retrieve it. But wait, there's more! The fan stripped down to his skivvies before diving in. Have a look:

What an effort. Talk about a successful fishing expedition.

Now that video says it was Corey Conners' club, but another account said it belonged to another Canadian, Adam Hadwin. And considering his club toss history—he launched one into the water on No. 18 at TPC Sawgrass this year—that checks out. Oh, and his wife, Jessica, seemed to confirm it.

Well played, Jessica. As always.

When Hadwin lost his 8-iron at the Players, Callaway shipped him a replacement immediately. But thanks to one man, that won't be necessary. Hadwin enters the weekend at two under and in a tie for 51st place. More importantly, he'll have all 14 clubs when he tees it up on Saturday—and a new favorite fan.
