AUGUSTA, Ga.—Whatever physical ailment that has been plaguing Paul Casey of late apparently hasn't gone away, and on Thursday he withdrew from the Masters due to an unspecified injury. The field is now 90 players.
Casey, 44, was scheduled to go off at 10:53 a.m. with Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith, who won the Players Championship last month. It was the last event Casey completed and he ended up third. He withdrew from the Valspar Championship the following week, a tournament he has won twice, but then tried to play in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He ended up conceding his first two matches and then withdrew from the tournament before his third match because of a back injury.
Ranked 25th in the world, Casey was set to play in his 16th Masters. His best finish was T-4 in 2016. He led after the first round in 2020 with a 65 only to end up T-38. The Englishman was T-26 last year.
