Patrick Reed WDs from BMW PGA Championship after apparent injury

Patrick Reed withdrew from the BMW PGA Championship midway through his second round on Friday.

The 2018 Masters champ was inside the top 10 of the leaderboard at the DP World Tour’s flagship event at Wentworth thanks to a four-under 68 Thursday. However, Reed struggled off the tee in his second round and was nine over through nine holes when he retired.

On the ninth hole, Reed was seen nursing his wrist after hitting a shot from a tree root and was carted off afterwards.

Reed entered the BMW PGA on top of the DP World Tour’s season-long Race to Dubai standings thanks to wins at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the Qatar Masters.

Earlier this year Reed left LIV Golf in hopes of returning to the PGA Tour. After serving a suspension, Reed is eligible to play on the American circuit, and is in line to earn a tour card through the DP World Tour’s top 10 finishers in the Race to Dubai standings.

“Just to finish No. 1 would be amazing. I mean, I know it's not gonna be easy because of a guys like Rory right on my tail right now,” Reed said earlier this week. “So you know, it's always fun any time I get to battle out with Rory. It's always a blast and you know, you always have to go out and play solid golf. I definitely wouldn't mind making him wait one more year to [equal] the record, but it's only a matter of time.”
