Nissan designed a supercar that can be driven with a Playstation controller

As if whipping 600-horsepower supercars around 20-turn road courses wasn’t dangerous enough already (and as if modern life didn’t already feel enough like a video game), Nissan decided to take their flagship GT-R and add one slight modification:

A Playstation controller.

Yep, that’s right. To celebrate the release of Gran Turismo Sport, the latest installment in Sony’s long-running racing sim, Nissan designed a real-life vehicle that can be controlled in exactly the same manner as its digital counterpart, utilizing analog sticks for steering and shoulder triggers for acceleration and braking. If the smile on professional driver Jann Mardenborough’s face when he revs this thing via R2 for the first time doesn’t properly compute how cool this is, perhaps the rest of the video will:

After getting a feel for the, err, controls, Mardenborough then takes the giant RC car for a test drive, piloting it from a helicopter high above the track. Miraculously, he manages to not put it into the wall and destroy what we imagine was a pretty complicated (read: eye-bulgingly expensive) setup, but even masochists who ONLY watch racing for the wrecks will probably still find this little stunt worth a white knuckle or two.
