After an unfortunate WD due to COVID at the 2021 Memorial Tournament while holding a commanding six-shot lead through the third round, Jon Rahm will look to pick up where he left off and best defending champ Patrick Cantlay and a world-class field at Muirfield Village. Seven of the top 10 golfers in the world will tee off this week, including Collin Morikawa, Cam Smith, Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth.
Will Zalatoris also will be in the loaded Memorial field trying to claim his elusive first PGA Tour title. The reigning Rookie of the Year has certainly shown what he can do but hasn’t been able to get over the hump when it comes to finishing golf tournaments off. This is as good a chance as ever.
The tournament takes place at one of the more familar stops on the PGA Tour: Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, outside of Columbus. Course architect and founder Jack Nicklaus will once again be the event's ubiquitous tournament host. He's expected to maintain his tradition of personally greeting the winner as he walks off the 18th green on Sunday.
The invitaitonal field has a prize money payout of $12 million with the winner earning $2.16 million as well as 550 FedEx Cup points.
