LPGA, LET and Golf Saudi to co-sanction U.K. event in 2027

A year after the agreeing to directly partner for the first time with Golf Saudi in co-sanctioning an event in Las Vegas with the Ladies European Tour, the LPGA announced Monday that it would be doing it again in 2027.
The Championship, a women’s golf tournament held in the United Kingdom since 2021 under the PIF Global Series moniker, will have a new look next year, with the LPGA co-sanctioning the event with the LET, and Golf Saudi backing it financially with an overall purse of $4 million.
The event is scheduled for July 19-25, 2027. The LPGA already plays overseas that time of the year, with two majors held in July, the AIG Women’s British Open and Amundi Evian Championship. The Championship appears to be taking the place of the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open, which is reportedly no longer on the LPGA schedule.
“We’re excited to add this championship to the LPGA Tour schedule alongside the LET,” said LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler in a press release. “With a strong multi-year partner and top players from both tours in the field, this event will bring a lot of energy and give players another great opportunity to compete during one of the biggest stretches of the season.”
In addition, Golf Saudi and LET announced a multi-year partnership involving the LET’s Order of Merit program.
“Golf Saudi has been an outstanding partner to the LET and has played a transformational role in creating opportunities for our players,” said LET CEO Tom Phillips. “This investment represents a commitment to strengthening our entire organization, supporting our players across the whole season, and enabling us to continue investing in the long-term growth and sustainability of the Tour. The LET is part of an essential pathway for new golfers, including those who will emerge from Saudi Arabia and across the Arab world in the coming years. As the game grows in the Kingdom and across the region, the LET provides an opportunity for those players to build their careers.”
The news comes in the wake of the decision by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the chief backer of the Golf Saudi movement, to pull its funding from the LIV Golf League after reportedly investing more than $5 billion in the last four years.
The press release from the LPGA, LET and Golf Saudi also noted that the PIF Global Series, launched in 2021 and hosting 29 LET events over three continents, will be sunset at the end of the 2026 season after two remaining events in South Korea and China are held in October and November.
Among those PIF Global Series events was the Aramco Championship, held at Shadow Creek Golf Club outside Las Vegas in early April and the first to be co-sanctioned by the LPGA and LET in conjunction with Golf Saudi. The 72-hole stroke-play tournament had a similar $4 million purse and was won by Lauren Coughlin. Golfweek reported that the event was left off a preliminary 2027 schedule shown to players earlier this month.
