JT perfectly pokes fun at Collin Morikawa after Morikawa nearly walks directly into one of his drives

February 21, 2022

Not including Cameron Young, who shot a one-under 70 in the final group, Collin Morikawa was the only chaser to truly put pressure on Joaquin Niemann on Sunday at the Genesis Invitational. And to think, he almost got taken out by Justin Thomas before his back nine charge even began.

At the par-4 10th, where there is often a large backup with each group taking aim at the green, Morikawa took a stroll to the bathroom and upon his return, he did not realize Thomas had already pulled an iron and was ready to strike. Thankfully, as Morikawa aimlessly walked back on to the teeing ground, someone made sure Thomas stood down, making for one of the funnier moments of the week, especially the part where Morikawa slunk over to the snack tent like a dog who just got caught eating the garbage:

The "sorry" as his shoulders sink into the chair is so good.

We've all been there. Maybe you cracked a beer during your buddy's backswing, or the porta-john door slammed while somebody was putting at the nearest green at your local muni. It happens. The only real difference here is Morikawa and Thomas are ranked second and seventh in the world, respectively. Other than that, identical situations.

Impressively, Morikawa regained his composure and went on to chip in for eagle at this hole, thrusting himself into contention. It was at that point Thomas knew ... he messed up:

In retrospect, this might be the only way to get rid of Morikawa on a Sunday. That dude just refuses to back down in a big spot. Next time, Thomas will seize the opportunity.
