Jordan Spieth had his sister, Ellie, cheering him on Thursday at Whistling Straits

HAVEN, Wis. -- Jordan Spieth's biggest fan was in attendance on Thursday.

Huge galleries were walking with the marquee group of the afternoon at Whistling Straits. Thousands of golf fans hoping to get a glimpse of World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, British Open champion Zach Johnson and two-time major winner Jordan Spieth. One of those fans cheering on Spieth was someone who knows Spieth better than anybody: His little sister, Ellie.

Jordan said he heard Ellie cheering for him before he teed off on the first hole, so he went over and greeted his little sister and his parents.

"It's awesome when she comes out to events," Spieth said. "I'm interested to see if she made it through the whole round and what she thought."

Ellie, 14, who was born with a neurological disorder, is an inspiration to her 22-year-old oldest brother. And even more, a motivating factor for Jordan to play better:

"She only accepts me if I win. And if I don't win, I better have something for her or take her shopping."

An opening one-under 71 might not have her over the moon, but we know Jordan's happy to have Ellie in attendance. He said he was pretty sure it was the first major that Ellie has gotten to attend.

Hopefully she'll make it out for the rest of her big brother's rounds, too.
