John Daly gave some fascinating grip advice to amateurs you've probably never considered before
Harry How
When it comes to life advice, even John Daly would tell you not to listen to his. When it comes to golf advice, though, the two-time major champ knows a thing or two.
Daly dished out a fascinating tip on Bryson DeChambeau's latest episode of "Break 50," which Daly guest-starred on. The duo failed to accomplish the goal, shooting an 18-under 53, but Daly succeeded in bringing plenty of entertainment and plenty of knowledge.
As they warmed up, Daly asked DeChambeau if all his clubs were actually the same, to which DeChambeau responded yes, the irons are. He also pointed out that he has oversized grips. "Like me," Daly said. Suddenly, class was in session.
"This is all about trying to teach amateurs how to play golf," Daly said. "Get fitted with your grip, not your clubs. The smaller the grip is—if you put your hands on a grip and you take it back and there's a gap between your left arm and your right hand ... you're screwed."
For those confused, what Daly means here is at the top of your swing, if there is a tiny gap between your right hand and the grip of the club, you're going to get into trouble. By having a larger grip you can eliminate that gap and have much more control of the golf club.
"The bigger the grip is, the better you're going to play," he said.
That sound you hear is every double-digit handicapper slamming their front door, hopping in the car and headed to the nearest ... wherever you get your clubs re-gripped store.
