Ian Poulter picks up tab in an Irish bar and leads frenzied Walker Cup fans in ‘Ole’ chants

Turns out Luke Poulter may not be the most popular Poulter at Lahinch. And that’s saying something.

While Luke, 22, was a stalwart for the GB&I Walker Cup team, helping them come from three points down to beat the Americans 13½ to 12½, his father Ian walked into an Irish bar late Sunday and, well, he picked up the tab.

Yes, Ian Poulter walked most every step with his son during a historic weekend where the GB&I team produced the biggest comeback in the history of the matches. Ian is a European Ryder Cup stalwart, going 15-8-2 in seven appearances, but he never played in the Walker Cup. His son went 2-2 on the week and won the second singles match Sunday, helping to start turn the tide.

Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine posted this video of Ian starting “Ole” chants with the locals and noted in the caption that Poulter said that it was an open bar and that drinks were on him.

"I've just got one thing to say to you all," Poulter yelled. "Ole, ole, ole, ole."

A legendary way to end a legendary day.
