Save for later

The last three weeks on the PGA Tour have been a signature event, signature event and a regular event. So it made sense that it was time for another signature event.

This one did not disappoint.

Akshay Bhatia erased a five-shot deficit over the final nine holes to get into a playoff with Daniel Berger at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando. Actually, after Bhatia's impressive flurry (shooting 31), it was Berger who got up and down from 70 yards on the 18th hole, making a 14 footer to save par, to get into the playoff, the first at Bay Hill since 1999, three years before Bhatia was born.

Bhatia went flag-hunting on the first playoff hole and made par. He won when Berger three-putted from 100 feet. Berger, 32, was looking for his fifth PGA Tour win and first since 2021. Bhatia, 24, won an event in both 2023 and 2024 but was winless last year.

Now Bhatia has win No. 3 and a signature event victory at Arnold Palmer's place. He earned $4 million from the $20 million purse. Berger took home $2.2 million and, as a consolation prize, qualified for the British Open.

Ludvig Aberg and Cameron Young tied for third place, three shots off the pace. Scottie Scheffler tied for 24th place, making it the second consecutive time he's finished outside the top-10 after 18 consecutive top-10 finishes. Rory McIlroy withdrew early Saturday citing a back injury.

Up next is the Players Championship.
