The PGA Tour stopped in Mexico on its way from the West Coast swing to the Florida swing and we needed two extra holes to determine the champion of the Mexico Open at Vidanta Vallarta. Ultimately it was Brian Campbell who topped Aldrich Potgieter with a birdie on the second playoff hole to capture his first PGA Tour victory.

Both men shot 20-under-par 264 total with Campbell shooting a final-round 70 to Potgieter's 71. Both made par on the first playoff hole, the par-5 18th, before Campbell made birdie the second time. He earned $1.26 million for his victoroy from the overall $7 million purse. Potgieter took home $763,000.

Campbell, a 31-year-old from California who played college golf at Illinois, had never finished better than 12th in a PGA Tour event and had only made 10 cuts in 27 events. None of that matters now that he's a PGA Tour champion.

Potgieter, a 20-year-old from South Africa who hits the ball miles, had only 215 yards into the green on the second hole of a playoff but flew his iron shot in the bunker short of the green. He failed to get up and down for birdie and Campbell did, hitting a wedge from 68 yards to inside four feet.

Isaiah Salinda finished third. Aaron Rai and Ben Griffin tied for fourth place.

The tour now heads to Florida for a full month, starting with the Cognizant Classic at PGA National, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship and Valspar Championship. The Puerto Rico Open will be played opposite the Arnold Palmer.
