The PGA Tour was back in Texas for the second time this year, this time at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson event at TPC Craig Ranch, where Taylor Pendrith was the defending champion.

But after four days of domination it was World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler who stole the show and shot 61-63-66-63 for a 31-under-par 253 total. That matched a PGA Tour record score for 72 hold and was good enough to win by ... EIGHT SHOTS! Erik van Rooyen was a distant second and still shot 23 under par for the week. Scheffler took home $1.782 million for his victory from the overall $9.9 million purse.

Yes, this was Scheffler's first victory of the season. And it comes at the perfect time. This is the event he always wanted to win because he grew up in the Dallas area and because the PGA Championship is only two weeks away. It'll surely be Scheffler and Rory McIlroy who are the two overwhelming favorites for the week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C.

Jordan Spieth was also in the field and remain a hometown favorite. He came into the Byron Nelson with two top-10 finishes this year, shot a final-round 62 to vault 19 spots up the leaderboard and into a fourth-place finish. He will look to capture the final leg of the career Grand Slam at the PGA, saying that McIlroy's victory at the Masters inspired him to continue to work hard.

Back to Scheffler. He was the only top 10 player in the field. After him it was Sungjae Im (20), Ben An (37), Tom Kim (38), Sam Burns (39), Pendrith (45) and Stephan Jaeger (47).

Up next is the Truist Championship, which moved to Philadelphia Cricket Club for a year because the PGA Championship is being held the following week at Quail Hollow Club, the usual Truist host course.

Here’s the rundown of what each player earned this week who made the cut.
