That was a quick break. Two weeks after the Tour Championship, the PGA Tour was back in action for the first of eight fall events that will help determine playing status for 2025.
This week was new sponsor at a familiar golf course, as the Procore Championship was at Silverado Resort’s North Course. Patton Kizzire took home his third PGA Tour victory and his first since 2018. He earned $1.08 million for his victory from the overall $6 million purse. Kizzire shot 66-65-67-70 for a 20-under-par 268 total and moved from 132nd in FedEx standings to 70th with the victory.
David Lipsky was second, five shots back, and Patrick Fishburn was third. They moved to 101st and 82nd in standings, respectively.
There were six players in the field who did not have to worry about their status for next year. Sahith Theegala (T-7), Wyndham Clark (MC), Max Homa (MC), Tom Hoge (T-7), Corey Conners (T-7) and Eric Cole (MC) fit that bill.
As for how status and priority works, these eight fall events will determine Nos. 50-125 in rankings. Those who finish in the top 10 positions, or Nos. 51-60 will be eligible for the first two signature events of next year. Although Nos. 51-70 before the start of this week have clinched eligibility for next year, they are competing to get into the top 10 spots mentioned above.
At the end of the fall, those from Nos. 126-150 will have conditional status on the PGA Tour for 2025. Anyone in that category is able to compete to regain full status through PGA Tour Q-School.
