Wright Wins 2010 Bob Jones Award

Mickey Wright has been named the recipient of the United States Golf Association's 2010 Bob Jones Award, which recognizes sportsmanship in golf.

A four-time U.S. Women's Open champion, Wright, 74, will receive the USGA's highest annual honor at its annual meeting Feb. 6 in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C.

A past president of the LPGA, Wright burst onto the national scene with here win at the 1952 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at the age of 17.

During her illustrious professional career, Wright had 82 LPGA Tour wins, including 13 majors championships. At one point, she held all four major titles in a 12-month span, making her the only woman to accomplish that feat.

She is also a former two-time winner of the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year Award and in 1999 was named the Female Golfer of the Century by the AP.
