Golf Twitter darling Michael Kim poses funny question after pulling off impressive feat
Andrew Redington
Michael Kim roared to the top of the leaderboard on Day 1 of the DP World Tour Championship, outplaying everyone from Rory McIlroy to Tommy Fleetwood. And after, the 32-year-old wasn't even sure if he had ever been in this position.
Which is exactly why he's No. 1 in the hearts of many on Golf Twitter.
Kim opened with an eight-under-par 64 in Dubai on Thursday to grab the early lead at Jumeirah Golf Estates' Earth Course. And that caused him to pose the following question after:
"I don’t remember the last time I had the solo first round lead… honestly might be my first as a pro?" Actually, Michael, you've done it twice before, both on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022. Funny, because that seems like the sort of thing you'd remember! (Kim was also T-1 after one round at the 2022 Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour, so gamblers could have cleaned up betting on him to be a first-round leader in 2022!)
Of course, it's certainly not the first time the Golf Twitter darling has finished a tournament in first place as a pro. The guy just just won the DP World Tour's French Open—and took on a giant bottle of Champagne—in September. And he won the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic in 2018.
So, it certainly isn't a shock to see Kim's name up there—especially during the best year of his pro career. And while we wait to see how this week plays out, there's one thing we can count on: Kim's candid takes on whatever happens.
